The Home Stretch...Third Trimester has begun!

29 Weeks...How Hannah is growing:

She now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain. To meet her increasing nutritional demands, I'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. (Ha!  Among many other food groups...right Tom?)  And because her bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in Hannah's hardening skeleton each day.

Here are some fun facts about Miss Hannah:

  • Her hair is growing and gaining color now. (blonde or brown?...can you believe Tom was a blonde baby?)
  • Her lungs are now capable of breathing air, if it were absolutely necessary.

  • Not only is she able to open and close her eyes, but she's even got little eyelashes to bat.

  • Up until this point Hannah's brain was smooth. Now, due to rapid growth, those wrinkles that are completely normal on the surface of the brain, are beginning to develop.

  • Due to the lack of space available to her now, Hannah will make fewer big movements, like somersaults, and more small movements of the arms and legs.  (Tom and I like to watch the remote control jiggle when on my belly).

I am VERY excited to be entering my third trimester.  My regular monthly appointments with my ob/gyn are now bumped up to every 2 weeks because I started my third trimester.  Soon I will have to go in every week for an update to make sure Hannah is healthy and growing on trake.  I feel wonderful but I do feel less energized and tired.  Today I went to the grocery story and I can say that it was my last time to make that trip before Hannah comes.  It tired me out!   But knowing that we will have Hannah in our arms in 72 days makes it all worth it.  Tom can't wait to hold his little girl in his arms and he reminds me of that often.
